Business & Design Lab has invited Ezio Mancini to Gothenburg to present his recent book "Design, When Everybode Designs.
Ezio will present and discuss his work at an open seminar at HDK on Wednesday 23 September at 16-17:30. Opportunities for a dialogue with Ezio

The seminar is free but you need to register at info@adasweden.se

At Bokmässan on Thursday 24/9 (16:50) on Forskartorget Ezio will introduce the book. Ezio will then have a discussion about the topic of “People Powered Futures” with Robin Edman, CEO of SVID Swedish Industrial Design Foundation, and Eva-Karin Anderman, project leader, SVID, at the breakfast seminar organized by SVID on Friday 25/9

Ezio Manzini, is a leading thinker in design for sustainability, founded DESIS, an international network on design for social innovation and sustainability (http://www.desis-network.org). He is Honorary Professor at the Politecnico di Milano, Chair Professor at University of the Arts London, and currently guest Professor at Tongji University, Shanghai, and Jiangnan University, Wuxi.
For more than two decades he has been working in the field of design for sustainability. Most recently, his interests have focussed on social innovation, considered as a major driver of sustainable changes. In this perspective he started DESIS: an international network of schools of design specifically active in the field of design for social innovation and sustainability (http://www.desis-network.org ).
In addition to his continuous involvement in the design for sustainability arena, he has explored and promoted design potentialities in different fields, such as: Design of Materials, in the 80s; Strategic Design, in the 90s (starting a Master in Strategic Design); Service Design, in the last ten years (starting the specific courses in Service Design).
His most recent book is Design, When Everybody Designs. An Introduction to Design for Social Innovation, MIT Press 2015.
As Ezio Manzini describes in this book, we are witnessing a wave of social innovations as these changes unfold an expansive open co-design process in which new solutions are suggested and new meanings are created.
Manzini distinguishes between diffuse design (performed by everybody) and expert design (performed by those who have been trained as designers) and describes how they interact. He maps what design experts can do to trigger and support meaningful social changes, focusing on emerging forms of collaboration.
Manzini draws the first comprehensive picture of design for social innovation: the most dynamic field of action for both expert and nonexpert designers in the coming decades.
“There is a deep humanism in the work of Ezio Manzini, and it is evident in the clarity and insights of his latest book. I am glad to recommend this book to anyone interested in the role of design in the new culture that we are all creating.” Writes Richard Buchanan, Professor and Chair of the Department of Design & Innovation, Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University
