“Not for the many but with the many”

Professor Leon Cruickshank visits Business & Design Lab to give a workshop for the Business & Design master’s students and together with Lisbeth Svengren Holm he will discuss his new book “Open design and innovation: facilitating creativity in everyone”.

It is a book that scrutinizes mass creativity reality and myth, the future of design, both as a practice and a profession. Leon Cruickshank, professor in design at Imagination Lab, Lancaster University, He has a wide experience of working with open design, co-design both with companies and with ordinary people in city projects. Through a series of case studies of new approaches to open design he and Lisbeth Svengren Holm, professor at University of Gothenburg, Business & Design Lab, will discuss the notion of the designer as 'fountain-head' of innovation and, equally, the idea of 'user creativity' as a replacement for traditional design and innovation. The book offers a critique of the hype surrounding some of the emerging phenomena in design and a framework to help understand the emerging relationship between citizens and designers. They will also discuss a roadmap for the development of the design profession, welcoming and facilitating new modes of design activity where designers facilitate creative collaborations.
